Who or What is She?

  • She calls herself Lauren but is also known as Mom, Gramma, Lar, and, once upon a time, Peach.
An ex-suburbanite who moved to the wilds of the Sonoran Desert and decided to raise fiber animals, fowl creatures, 3 halflings, and one pint-sized farmer without a clue as to how. Join Lauren as she learns how to file alpaca teeth, shear a horny goat, raise 3 teenagers and 1 grandchild while cooking dinner and doing the laundry with her other six arms.

I'm glad you posted this here, too, Lauren, since I'm not a member of Open Salon and can't comment there.

Yes, your inner self-loathing demon is very loud; I wish I could drown him or her out! I have a friend with ADHD; she didn't know it until her teenage son was diagnosed several years ago. They were told it's not the INABILITY to focus, but a too-frequent SHIFT in focus to allow you to get much accomplished in each individual area, which sounds like what you are describing as well. She's never taken ritalin, but HAS been on anti-depressants for years. I don't know if my sharing that helps you at all, but maybe knowing you're not alone in this? Yes, a lot of water has already flowed under your bridge; I hope you can make peace with that so you can enjoy the time you have left.

It does sound a little ADHD, Lauren. It wouldn't hurt to look into that, right? That said, your life has value and meaning if you have lived in love, as you clearly have. Your husband, kids, animals and friends can attest to that. The world is clearly a better place for you being in it.
